Ugly textbook

-

Regarding “Board must reject inaccurate, insulting history textbook” (Page A33, Sept. 11), this book, “Mexican American Heritage,” is laden with horrible, disgusting misrepresentations of a beautiful culture. Instead of promoting intelligent discussions regarding the Mexican-American culture, it spews lies and promotes a civil unrest among us. This book is demoralizing and not just to Hispanic people. It’s demoralizing to us as a country, a country that is known for being a melting pot. It’s demoralizing to us as humans.

At this point it’s not a discussion on IF the book should be thrown out. At this point this book, this weapon should be used as a turning point in this country. The more open we are about our heritage and the more receptive we are to listening to other histories of heritage, I believe we may have a chance to better this state, this country and this world.
