Hicks, TCU throttle Iowa St.

FORT WORTH — Kyle Hicks ran for 117 yards including a 64-yard touchdown run and also scored on a 25-yard catch as TCU beat Iowa State 41-20 on Saturday in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

While the Horned Frogs bounced back from a double-overtime home loss to Arkansas that knocked them out of the Top 25, wide receiver/returner KaVontae Turpin suffered an apparent left leg injury and had to be helped off the field early in the third quarter. Turpin entered the game the national leader with 236 all-purpose yards per game.

The Cyclones, with first-year coach Matt Campbell, are 0-3 for the first time since 1997.

OKLAHOMA ST. 45 PITTSBURGH 38

Mason Rudolph connected on an 86-yard pass to Jhajuan Seales, and then Rennie Childs scored on a 1-yard run — his fourth rushing touchdown of the game — with 1:28 remaining to lift the Cowboys over the Panthers at Stillwater, Okla.

Rudolph passed for 540 yards and two touchdowns, while James Washington pulled in nine receptions for 296 yards — the most in the nation by anyone so far this season — and two touchdowns. Childs gained 101 yards on 10 carries.

Rudolph had 372 yards passing and Washington 231 receiving yards in the first half, both school records for one half.

James Conner rushed for 111 yards and a TD for the Panthers (2-1).

TEXAS TECH 59 LOUISIANA TECH 45

Patrick Mahomes passed for 470 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another score as the Red Raiders (2-1) defeated the Bulldogs at Lubbock.

Jonathan Giles caught three TD passes and Demarcus Felton rushed for 123 yards and two scores. The Bulldogs (1-2) got three TD passes from Ryan Higgins and 151 yards and a touchdown from Jarred Craft.

KANSAS ST. 63 FLORIDA ATLANTIC 7

Winston Dimel ran for four first-half touchdowns, and the Wildcats took advantage of four Owls turnovers en route to an easy victory in their home opener at Manhattan, Kan.

Jesse Ertz added 117 yards passing with a touchdown, and Dominique Heath returned a punt 75 yards for another score for Kansas State (1-1).

MEMPHIS 43, KANSAS 7

The Tigers took advantage of six Jayhawks turnovers and coasted to an easy victory at home, sending the Jayhawks (1-2) to their 39th consecutiv­e road loss.

Riley Ferguson completed 15 of 24 passes for 189 yards and two TDs for the Tigers (2-0).
