China leads medal count as Paralympic­s come to a close

The Paralympic­s ended on Sunday after nearly two weeks of competitio­n in which China dominated the medal count. Notable highlights for the American delegation included the U.S. men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams’ win over Spain and Germany for the gold; swimmer Brad Snyder’s world record time in the 100-meter freestyle; and Navy veteran Andre Shelby’s gold in archery by a single point. The Paralympic­s were not without tragedy as an Iranian paracyclis­t was killed after a crash on Saturday. The Paralympic­s closing ceremony Sunday will end the weekslong Games in Rio.
