Russia eyed in hackings of doping agency, Powell emails

- From wire reports

Last week, a couple of hacking incidents wrecked the privacy of American athletes and politicians, most notably gold-medal gymnast Simone Biles and former Secretary of State Colin Powell. The hacking on Tuesday of athletes’ medical records by the Fancy Bear cyber criminal group was seen as a retaliatory hit against the World Anti-Doping Agency after 118 Russian athletes were banned from the Rio Games for “state-sponsored” doping. Fancy Bear also is suspected in the hack of the Democratic National Committee in June. Biles was revealed to have used a banned drug, which was later revealed to be an exempted prescription for ADHD. Other outed athletes included tennis star Venus Williams and U.S. women’s basketball player Elena Della Donne. On Wednesday, it was revealed that Powell’s emails had been hacked. The emails showed a strong aversion to GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and distrust of “Hillary’s mafia” in trying to drag him into her email scandal. Around 30,000 stolen Powell emails were given to DCLeaks. com by unnamed hackers. There is some speculation that DCLeaks has ties to Russian intelligence services.
