John Daugherty, Realtors’ Vicki Lehner made sure the kids were big winners the spectacular results of the recent “Fantasy Football” event held at NRG stadium benefitting Boy and Girls Harbor. Lehner, a dedicated board member of the charity, was also co-chair of the auction committee with her husband, Bill Lehner. More than $250,000 was raised the night of the party.

Lehner reported that guests wore their best game-day attire and enjoyed a gourmet “tailgating” spread — while each selected their own Fantasy Football team for the 2016 – 2017 NFL season. The highest overall winner at the end of the regular season will receive two tickets to the Super Bowl in Houston this February, as well as special entree to some of the toughest event party tickets in town.

••• Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty’s Bob Mitchell and Wade Knight attended the Fierce and Fabulous Soiree at the Astorian benefitting Houston PetSet. The group provides grants to a variety of Houston animal welfare organizations — causes dear to both men. Both are well known as being animal lovers. Mitchell is owner of the “famous” standard poodle Grace, who has been in a television commercial and co-hosted soirees with her human companion. Knight would argue his Yorkie, Luke, is just as great — but simply a a more private pooch. ••• The recent Food Truck Friday event held in the Memorial Northwest subdivision in northwest Houston drew plenty of happy and hungry neighbors thanks to four agents from the BHGRE Gary Greene Champions office who organized the evening. Esanet Benedict, Jamie Berlin, Lynne Sanders and Tamika Shotwell live and work in the neighborhood.

“Their commitment to community was the driver for this event, which will be held monthly, allowing neighbors to come together and enjoy dinner, play games and build community,” said Sharon Teusink, Champions manager.

••• While the majority of Houston is getting fired up for the Houston Texans season, a cadre of western New York transplants (your columnist included) remain devoted to the Buffalo Bills.

The North Houston Bills Backers are holding a fundraiser for Houston-based “K-9s 4 Cops” on Sunday, Oct. 30, at Rack’s American Grill in Spring.

Roseann Rogers, known by many for her previous work both in television and with John Daugherty, Realtors, has “gone to the dogs” in the best way as the executive director of the K-9 charity.

The goal of “Kick-Off for K-9 Kelly” is to purchase a working police dog for a department in need and earn the privilege of naming the dog for the former Bills (and Houston Gamblers) quarterback Jim Kelly. ••• Forget what the thermometer says. Look at the calendar — fall is here with all its wonderful fundraisers and special events. Be sure to share details of local real estate professionals giving back to the community for inclusion in Real People columns at realnewshouston@gmail.com.
