A gourmet hot dog restaurant is dog friendly

• Good Dog Houston has opened a gourmet hot dog restaurant at 1312 W. Alabama in Montrose in the former Brick and Spoon. After starting as a food truck in 2011, coowners Amalia Pferd and Daniel Caballero opened the first standing location in 2013. The new, dogfriendl­y restaurant has 50 more seats and a larger kitchen than the original location, plus an outdoor screen for hosting movie nights and showing Tex- ans games. A grand opening will be Saturday.

• Aldi will open grocery stores at 3618 Old Spanish Trail, 9002 Spencer Highway in La Porte and 7945 W. Grand Parkway South in Richmond on Thursday. The discount grocer has grown to 29 local stores since coming to the Houston market in 2013. The stores will feature a new look with high ceilings and natural lighting, as well as easy-to-spot products signs and prices.

• Kiddie Academy of Wood forest has opened a 10,500-square-foot facility at 740 Fish Creek Thorough fare. The center can accommodat­e 200 children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.

• Fur Babies has leased 5,800 square feet in the Shoppes at Kings-Gate formerly known as the Kingwood Shopping Center. Shawn Ackerman of Henry S. Miller represente­d the landlord. Cyrus Chen of Miller represente­d the tenant.

• Lens Crafters has opened a store in the River Oaks Shopping Center. The locations offers the chain’s new Clarifye SM digital eye exam.

• Texas Borders Bar & Grill has leased 6,080 square feet at 26440 FM 1093, Richmond. Fadi Semaan of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Anderson Properties represente­d the tenant.
