Realtor, team motto is ‘making clients for life’

- By Rebecca Maitland

The real estate market is shifting to be a buyer’s market with interest rates still being low. Therefore, it is a good time to buy, which is also good for sellers. Sales have slowed somewhat in homes over $300,000, making it an excellent time to buy for those in this price point.

Jill Smith, a Realtor with BHGRE Gary Greene, main focus area is the greater Cypress area and northwest Houston — where there are homes in most all price points — is one of the most popular areas and Smith’s home territory.

“I grew up in Conroe, graduating from Conroe High School and Sam Houston State in Huntsville. I moved to Houston after I graduated from college in 1989 and I have lived in the Cypress Area since 2008,” Smith said.

Prior to real estate, Smith worked in pharmaceutical sales. In 2009, she decided a career change was in order and chose real estate.

“My husband and I had discussed joining the real estate industry later in life, but the time was right for me in 2009, and it has turned out to be a blessing. I am so glad I made the change. I love what I do,” Smith said.

Many of the skills that assisted her in being suc- cessful in pharmaceutical sales also are beneficial to her and her clients in real estate. For example, in pharmaceutical sales, she worked with and sold to many personality types, and adapted easily to the person she was working with, which is also key in real estate.

Other skills she honed in her previous position that she brought to real estate include being organized, persistent, friendly and professional, hardworking, and going above and beyond to meet her clients’ goals.

These talents and skills have brought Smith success in real estate as well, as she has been a top producer since becoming a Realtor. She also was named Rookie of the Year her first year and the last two years her team has won the Emerald Elite Award with BHGRE Gary Greene.

Her team, known as the Jill Smith Team, in- cludes four buyer specialists, a listing coordinator and a transaction coordinator. Smith is more focused on the listing side, helping sellers reach their goals.

“Our motto as a team is “Making clients for life.” We want to continue to have a relationship with our clients long past the transaction. We want to be top of mind for any of our past clients should they have future real estate needs or have a referral.

“As a result of our efforts, over 30 percent of our business every year comes from referrals from past clients or past clients calling us again,” Smith said.
