HomeAid to dedicate Boys and Girls Country project

-

On Nov. 16, the generosity of dozens of companies and individuals will be highlighted at a formal dedication ceremony at Boys and Girls Country’s newly completed cottage that will house eight children who have come from families in crisis.

This 8,100-square-foot home, called the Joanne H. Watford Cottage, was built in partnership by the team of HomeAid Houston and Partners in Building, the project’s builder captain.

“This will be a day of great celebration as we honor Partners in Building and the vendors, trades and volunteers who made this beautifully constructed cottage a dream come true for so many,” said Cindy Hinson, president of HomeAid Houston. “HomeAid is honored to take part in such a huge addition to the growing Boys and Girls Country campus.”

Partners in Building enlisted its vendors to help by donating materials, labor and services for the construction and supervised the entire process from the groundbreaking to completion.

“It is the generosity of our vendors that makes a project like this happen,” said Jim Lemming, president and CEO of Partners in Building. “We spend a great deal of time developing relationships with all our vendors. It is gratifying to see their support when we come to them with a project like this one that will better the lives of so many deserving children.”

Vendors and trades who donated to the project include: Theiss Plumbing, Whirlpool, Cemex, Avelino Flores, 1st Infiniti, Marek Brothers, Apex Foundation Limited, Cast Fireplaces and Shaw Carpet/Flooring Services.

About Boys and Girls Country

The children at Boys and Girls Country live with a married “teaching parent” and any children they may have, as well as two single teaching parents who raise these children as their own.

The program is made up of a network of 11 cottage families and an extended Christian neighborhood that supports the children as they learn and grow, provides them with educational and emotional support, holds them accountable to their peers and the greater community, and encourages them to dream and achieve big goals. Education is also a major priority and focus for the kids and staff.

HomeAid Houston, a 501(c)(3) charity of the GHBA, provides remodeling and new construction support to qualified homeless care agencies in Harris and the surrounding counties by partnering with accomplished GHBA builders, remodelers, vendors and suppliers who donate up to 50 percent of the cost of a project’s construction.
