• TCU ROUTS BAYLOR.

-

WACO — Kyle Hicks ran for a career-high 192 yards with five touchdowns and TCU beat 17th-ranked Baylor 62-22 on Saturday.

Baylor’s worst loss home loss since 2005 came on a day when the Bears wore all-black uniforms, as selected by the seniors, and there were black T-shirts sold outside supporting former coach Art Briles.

“It’s tough. You don’t ever see anybody going through what we’re kind of going through, but we can’t use that as an excuse,” Baylor quarterback Seth Russell said. “We can’t let those outside things influence us in one way or another.”

The Bears (6-2, 3-2 Big 12, No. 17 CFP) have lost consecutive games since a 6-0 start. TCU (5-4, 3-3) entered the game after losing back-to-back games for the first time since 2013.

“‘I was surprised today, to be honest with you,” Baylor acting coach Jim Grobe said. “But I think that once you have a couple tough losses like we have had the last two times out, I think it may be a little bit easier to just start playing football.”

Hicks’ five TDs were one short of LaDainian Tomlinson’s school record set in November 1999, when he ran for 406 yards against UTEP in what was then the single-game major college record.

After Russell threw an 81-yard TD pass to Ishmael Zamora on the second play of the game, Kenny Hill hit Taj Williams for a 37-yard score on TCU’s second play.

Cowboys coach Mike Gundy is never going to second-guess Wildcats counterpart Bill Snyder.

There will be plenty of others who do.

Oklahoma State took advantage when Snyder elected to punt near midfield on fourth-and- inches in the fourth, and rallied for a victory at Manhattan that was only secured when the Wildcats’ pass to the end zone was picked off on the final play.

“I know in the past he’s played the percentages,” Gundy said about the decision to punt, which gave his team the ball back trailing 37-28 with about 8 minutes left. “He’s somewhat a genius when it comes to that.”

This time, it helped the Cowboys (7-2, 5-1, No. 18 CFP) keep their Big 12 title hopes alive.

Mason Rudolph, who finished with 457 yards and five TDs, connected with James Washington on an 82-yard TD pass two plays later and Chris Carson capped a go-ahead drive with a 17-yard TD run to give the Cowboys the lead over the Wildcats (5-4, 3-3)

Skyler Howard threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more to lead the No. 20 Mountaineers over the Jayhawks at Morgantown, W. Va. It was the Jayhawks’ 40th consecutive road loss.

Justin Crawford ran for 129 yards and a score, and freshman Kennedy McKoy had 127 yards for the Mountaineers (7-1, 4-1 Big 12).

The Mountaineers piled up 605 yards of offense against the Jayhawks (1-8, 0-6). Howard completed 16 of 27 passes for 260 yards.

“It wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it and move on to the next one,” coach Dana Holgorsen said.
