HomeAid gets support from GHBA’s Benefit Homes Project fundraiser

-

HomeAid Houston, a 501(c)(3) charity sponsored by the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), provides new construction and remodeling to qualified homeless care providers in Harris and the surrounding counties.

To help make this happen, HomeAid receives support from the GHBA’s 36-year-old charity fundraiser, the Benefit Homes Project. This fundraiser is HomeAid’s largest contributor, having donated nearly $600,000 to HomeAid Houston since 2007.

This GHBA commitment was highlighted at a recent HomeAid board meeting where the agency was presented with a check from the sale of a 2016 GHBA Benefit home built by Castletree Homes.

Castletree sold its home in the 600-acre community of Miramesa. The community’s developer, Land Tejas Cos., donated the homesite.

GHBA CEO Casey Morgan presented the check to HomeAid’s president, Cindy Hinson. The funds will go toward future HomeAid construction projects.

Each year, two to three homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project with donated materials, labor and services by GHBA members. The homes are loaded with upgrades and amenities and are sold at market value. The majority of the proceeds benefit local charities. In 2016 the charities are HomeAid Houston, Texas Children’s Cancer Center and the Alzheimer’s Association.

“GHBA members continue to step up and provide funds so HomeAid can successfully complete our mission, which is to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach,” Hinson said. “These generous companies and individuals contributing through the Benefit Homes Project understand that without help from within the community, the homeless numbers will continue to rise. We can’t thank the GHBA and its builders, developers, vendors and trades enough.”

HomeAid also partners with GHBA builders, remodelers, vendors and suppliers. These partners donate up to 50 percent of the cost of HomeAid construction of projects all over Houston.

Smaller projects are also part of the HomeAid commitment with its “HomeAid Care” program. This program offers agencies smaller remodeling projects for their existing buildings, in the $25,000 - $50,000 range.

“HomeAid’s professionalism, track record and clear vision in their commitment to the homeless population of Houston are all key factors in determining that they will be a beneficiary of the Benefit Homes Project in 2017 and beyond,” said Will Holder, chairman of the Benefit Homes Project and president of Trendmaker Homes. “There is no doubt that HomeAid continues to make a difference in the lives of so many.”
