In 2016, Lamb enjoyed one of the finest years a receiver has ever had
The numbers speak for themselves: 98 catches, 2,032 yards and 33 touchdowns. Foster wide receiver CeDarian Lamb turned out to be the most dangerous weapon on arguably the city’s most explosive offense.
And when it was over, Lamb’s senior season resulted in one of the greatest receiving campaigns in the Texas high school football history and earned him the Chronicle’s All-Greater Houston Football Offensive Player of the Year award.
Known to many as “CeeDee,” Lamb’s receiving yards are fourth-most all-time in Texas, while his touchdowns tie him for second most.
“He’s had the best high school season for a player that I’ve ever been around in 13 years,” Foster coach Shaun McDowell said. “It was unbelievable. I think what it really came down to is him and the whole football team this past season just took their intensity and took their goals to another level, starting back in January and all the way through offseason and spring football and 7-on-7 and especially this season.
“He just took his game to another level. It really helped raise our team. CeeDee was that guy. Everybody talks about him, but he never talks about himself.”
With honors this season that included Houston Touchdown Club’s Offensive Player of the Year and first-team allstate, Lamb continues making believers out of those who have come to see that the Oklahoma commitment has the talent to reach the NFL.
Q: Most players set goals for themselves and want to accomplish things they’ve never done. Did you envision this was the kind of year you would have statistically?
A: “I had a great season, more than I thought obviously. It was more than what I expected. I was planning to have a better season than I did my junior year, which I did. I’m happy to leave my mark on Texas high school football history.”
Q: As good a year as you had, does finishing near the top instead of at the top give you something to work toward moving forward?
A: “This is a season that I’ll hold close to me forever because that proves I’m not the greatest and I’m not the first one to do it either, but I’m taking steps to the next level.”
Q: What is your reaction to the NFL praise? Temple coach Scott Stewart called you a “Sunday kind of kid” after your teams met in the Class 5A Division
