Renee Barrett Nowlin, born July 22, 1939 in Houston, Texas, passed into eternal peace and healing the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 21, 2016, at the age of 77.

Renee grew up in Baytown, TX and graduated from Robert E Lee High School. With a strong value of education, Renee went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Homemaking, and a Masters Degree in Education. She was a Licensed Profession­al Counselor. Renee embarked on a career in education that would see her impact thousands of lives. For 34 years as an educator at the high school level, Renee taught, and then was a counselor, in the Aldine School District. Renee was among the first set of teachers to innaugurat­e MacArthur High School and remained there for the balance of her career, before retiring in 1999.

Renee had a passion for gardening and was a Certified Master Gardener. Forever young at heart, Renee was an active member of the local chapter of The Red Hat Society. Always valuing and serving others above herself, Renee served faithfully through her church; teaching, leading, and attending numerous Bible study groups and was an active member of the prayer warrior team at Coldspring UMC.

Renee is preceded in death by her parents, WP and Dorothy Barrett, her brother WP Barrett, III and her beloved husband of 27 years, Dr. Terry Winston Nowlin. She is survived by her spouse Jerry Evans, Renee’s son Preston Boxley and wife Becky of Coldspring, TX, and Renee’s daughter Karyn Nowlin Stephan and husband Robert of San Antonio, TX. Renee also leaves behind a sister, Myric Barrett LeJeune of Louisiana, 4 grand children and their spouses: Philip and wife Kacee, Leticia and wife Seneca, Grace Renee and husband Myron, Teri Jo and husband Brandon, five great-grandchild­ren as well as two nephews, a niece and a multitude of lives loved, valued and impacted by her time in this life.

Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland, Texas. Public viewing on December 27, 2016 from 5-9 pm. Funeral service December 28 at 11 am followed by internment at 2:30 pm at Hill of Rest Cemetery, (800 Market St.) Baytown, Texas, 77520. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Renee Nowlin can be made to Coldspring United Methodist Church, building fund or the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas.
