In many ways, 2016 was the year that kept on taking. And Hollywood couples are no exception. Breakups ran wild, even among A-listers.
1. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Easily the year’s most talked-about breakup. After meeting on the set of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” in 2004, the couple dated for a decade before marrying two years ago in a private ceremony with their six children. In September, Jolie filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” 2. Bella Hadid and The Weeknd: The model and the musician got together in 2015 when Hadid posed for artwork on The Weeknd’s album. They broke up in November. 3. Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris:. We’re still waiting for the breakup album on this one. After 15 months and plenty of Instagrams together, the musical power couple called it off this spring. Harris threw some shade Swift’s way in music released shortly after the split, but Swift has yet to pen her over-it anthem. 4. Kat Denning and Josh Groban: The “2 Broke Girls” star and the famous crooner dated for two years before announcing a “mutual breakup” this summer. 5. Iggy Azalea and Nick Young: Azalea (and the rest of the world) learned Young was cheating on her in a viral video this March, but she very publicly vowed to give him a second chance. Until he allegedly cheated again; she announced a permanent split in June. 6. Chloë Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham: They made puppy love so cute. After dating on and off for a couple of years, the actor and aspiring soccer player broke up in September. The cause? A massive fight at a Coldplay concert. 7. Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney: Maybe it was a “Bad Romance”? The pop superstar and the actor met in 2011 on the set of Gaga’s music video for “You and I.” It was love at first sight. But five years and one giant engagement ring later, the duo called it quits this summer. 8. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard: After a brief marriage, Heard accused Depp of domestic abuse, and the tabloid drama that followed got ugly, fast. Heard vowed to donate her divorce settlement to charity organizations, but Depp still won’t cut the check. 9. Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama: “After almost six loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship,” Lovato and Valderrama wrote in a note posted to Lovato’s Instagram page. The reason? “We are better as best friends.” 10. Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts: The actors announced a split after 11 years in September, asking for privacy so they can continue to work together to raise their children, Alexander, 9, and Samuel, 7.
