Heights home has wealth of details, classic charm

- By Lisa Zapalac

Surrounded by new and renovated classic homes that define the Houston Heights, this home at 415 W. 12th St. is described by listing agent Rae Lynn White of Coldwell Banker United, Realtors — Heights as having stunning curb appeal and a beautiful design.

An iron gate opens to an antique brick walkway with a herringbone pattern that leads to the front porch and entry to the two-story home with nearly 4,000 square feet of living space.

Inside, a large entry hall offers immediate views of the formal living areas’ detailed finishes, oak floors and high ceilings.

The formal living room is located off the right of the entry that has become a popular gathering spot for the current owners. The formal dining room is to the left of the entry and offers natural light, seating for eight to 10 people and lovely wainscoting that is found throughout the front areas of the home.

A private first-floor guest room with full bath and walk-in closet (or fifth bedroom) overlooks the patio and is currently being used as a study.

The family room off the kitchen is open with lots of windows and access to the large bricked patio.

The family room and patio have surround sound and speakers. The family room also has access to the large mud room with storage, seating and hooks.

A large center granite slab island with storage and seating, recessed lighting, oak floors, honed black granite countertops, and a subway tile finish backsplash are among the highlights of the kitchen. It includes plenty of preparation and storage space; a built-in seating area along one of the walls; and Thermador Professional Series appliances, including a six-burner gas range with pot filler, pro vent hood, a built-in refrigerator and a wine refrigerator.

The butler’s pantry, which connects the kitchen and dining room, has regular and chilled wine storage and a walk-in pantry.

The master suite and four bedrooms are upstairs. The large master suite features a tray ceiling, windows, moldings and hardwood floors that are also in all of the secondfloor bedrooms.

The master bath has a lot of built-in storage, an antique-style tub, dressing and vanity areas, a large shower and two closets.

The second and third bedrooms are spacious in size and offer details such as angled dormer ceilings and wood panels that conceal hidden storage areas.

There is a study/office space located between the two front bedrooms overlooking the front yard and trees, and a laundry room with abundant storage, a utility sink with a window above, and a Whirlpool Cabrio extra-large-capacity washer and gas dryer.

Another flexible area of the home is the fourth bedroom suite that is accessible from a back staircase near the mudroom. This area includes a full bath and a kitchenette with a refrigerator and would also be an ideal media room, game room, “man cave” or guest suite.

Outside offers a private patio with an antique brick floor and walls, and automatic retractable, custommade awning.

With four or five bedrooms and four full baths, this home is priced at $1,015,000.
