MARVIN M.YAROTSKY
1923-2017
Marvin Michael Yarotsky, age 93, passed away, Thursday, February 16, 2017. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who had served his country honorably with the Army in the Super 6th Armored Division during the Battle of the Bulge.
The son of Ukrainian immigrants, Marvin earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Lafayette College, a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University, and his Law Degree from the University of Houston. He worked for Shell Oil Company for over 34 years in both Houston and New York followed by a few years practicing law with a Houston law firm. His daughters often referred to him as their “Renaissance Man” due to his avid interest and personal achievements in carpentry, painting, Toastmasters, hunting, fishing, gardening, and ultimately, Chrysanthemum growing which led to Marvin and his wife entering, lecturing, and judging at Chrysanthemum shows locally, nationally, and internationally. He also served as President of several garden clubs and Chrysanthemum societies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine Yarotsky; brother, Eugene Yarotsky; and sister, Olga Skifski. Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nellie Joe “Jackie” Standley Yarotsky; daughters, Karla Lewis and husband Bartley, Lori Yarotsky, Nana Midcap and husband Skip, Sheila Yarotsky and husband Don Reynolds, and Brenda DeSanto and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Tamara Alexander and husband Jason, Zachary Lewis and wife Eva Laporte, Levi Midcap, Nathan Midcap and wife Ashley, David Midcap, Mandi Midcap, and Aaron Jacobson; great grandchildren, Xavier Alexander and Talia Alexander; and nephews, Bill Edwards and Bill Skifski.
Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2017 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Spring Woods United Methodist Church, 1711 Cypress Creek Parkway, (FM 1960), Houston, Texas 77090. A Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., later the same day at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
