Sandcastle donates remodeling services for HomeAid Project

HomeAid Houston, a 501(c)(3) charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association is teaming with GHBA member, Sandcastle Homes to renovate the transitional living facility for A Caring Safe Place, an agency that provides crisis intervention services for men living with HIV and affected by HIV who are also victims of drug abuse, abandonment and abuse.

Mike Dishberger, Sandcastle’s CEO and co-owner is the project’s builder captain. He will be working with his purchasing manager, Nicole Keown to provide renovations that include remodeling the kitchen with new countertops and backsplash and installing new appliances.

The team will repair and replace flooring, apply fresh paint, both interior and exterior, and make repairs to the roof and trim work.

“We are honored to have been selected as one of the charities for HomeAid Houston’s 2017 renovation projects,” said Rev. Stanley Phill with A Caring Safe Place. “We are grateful to HomeAid and of course Sandcastle Homes, who is graciously volunteering to serve as the builder captain. These renovations will assist the agency in furthering its mission to provide life impacting services to vulnerable populations in the homeless community.”

Numerous vendors are donating materials and services. They include: James Hardi/Montalbano Lumber, Texas Electrical Contractors, EC Contractors, SherwinWilliams Paints, Probuild, Hall Sprinkler Co., DataSmart, Seybro Door, Houston Carpet Services, Mainland Custom Stoneworks, Fernando Tile and Marble, JD Waterworks, Daltile and Juan Hurtado Trim.

A Caring Safe Place has experience developing, constructing, and operating a transitional living program as well as a permanent supportive housing program. They have been providing housing for the homeless since 1997. The transitional housing program provides services for homeless, HIV positive men with histories of substance abuse who are at least 18 years or older with a desire to live drug- and alcohol-free, while actively working to improve their lives and their future.

“HomeAid does such good work in our community,” said Dishberger. “I decided to take on this project after completing another HomeAid project several years ago. It was so rewarding to see the smiles on the faces of the residents and staff when the project was completed. We are truly looking forward to getting started on A Caring Safe Place.”
