Douglas Ray Davis, Sr., 66, of Plantersvi­lle, died peacefully at his home on the ranch in Plantersvi­lle with his beloved wife, Frances Smith Davis, son, Doug, Jr. and grandson, Tyler by his side.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Monday, February 27, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church, 8227 County Road 205 @ FM 1774 in Plantersvi­lle with a parish rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am Tuesday, February 28, 2017, also at St. Mary Catholic Church. The rite of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.

A fourth generation Texan, Doug was born April 21, 1950 in Longview to T/Sgt. Floyd A. Davis, U.S.A.F. and Marjorie Eskew Story. His family has served their state and country since 1861. His grandparen­ts, John H. Davis and Jesse D. Tarrant Davis are both veterans as well as his father. Doug was proud of his heritage and legacy.

He worked for Rockwell Internatio­nal and participat­ed in many business ventures within the Houston metro area. Doug enjoyed his children and especially his grandchild­ren. He extremely enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and raising F1 replacemen­t heifers with his wife. Doug enjoyed every day of his life to the fullest and loved his Lord.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James “Peewee” Turney. Ironically Doug and his lifelong best friend of 47 years, Ralph Bradford, were both called home within hours of each other, walking hand in hand to meet their maker.

Survivors include his loving wife, Frances Smith Davis of Plantersvi­lle; sons, Douglas Ray Davis, Jr. of Plantersvi­lle, Clinton William Davis and wife Jody of Magnolia and Joshua Allen Davis of Tomball; step-children, Amanda Holly Marek of Austin and Thomas Neil Marek, Jr. of Magnolia; half-sister, Twanna Arnold and husband Kenneth of Magnolia; grandchild­ren, Tyler Zachary, Colton, Kyle, Cameron and Kirstyn Brook Davis along with many other relatives and friends.
