Check out the transportation options before you go.

- — Diane Cowen

Of course you’re excited about visiting the 2017 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Not so excited, perhaps, about the traffic and parking, the getting in and getting out. Let’s go out of the box this year and consider something drastically different: public transportation. You’ll be green and you won’t be stressed out when you get there.

UBER/TAXIS:

If you’re hitching a ride with Uber or a taxi, the NRG Park dropoff site is at Gate 9 off of Kirby.

METRORAIL:

The light rail train delivers rodeo-goers to NRG Park daily, with northbound service until 1:40 a.m. Monday-Saturday and until 11:20 p.m. Sunday. Southbound service runs until 3:25 a.m. Monday-Saturday and until 1:15 a.m. on Sundays. The Stadium Park/Astrodome stop drops you off at NRG Park.

PARK & RIDE:

Park at several lots and take a Metro or Rodeo Express bus in. Metro Park & Ride lots are at 7821 N. Shepherd ($6.50 per person round trip), 4675 S. Braeswood ($4 per person round trip), 8833 1/2 Gulf Freeway ($4 per person round trip) and 515 Maxey ($4 per person round trip). Rodeo Express lots are: OST1, 2103 S. Braeswood, this lot is handicap accessible and costs $20 per car to park, though the shuttle bus ride is free; Aramco Services Co., 9009 W. Loop South, no charge to park, though the round-trip ride is $7 for adults (13 and older) and $5 for children (ages 3-12); Reed Road, 2400 Reed, no charge to park though the round-trip ride is $7 for adults (13 and older) and $5 for children (ages 3-12).

TRAMS:

If you choose to drive to the grounds and park, trams will take you from the parking lots to the NRG Park entry gates for free.
