Metro train kills man on tracks

-

A pedestrian died Saturday after being struck by a Metro train in north Houston.

The train operator spotted a middle-aged Latino man standing in the tracks on the Red Line shortly before 3 p.m. as the tram was approaching Neyland and Fulton, MetroRail spokeswoman Laura Whitley said.

The operator applied the brakes but was not able to stop the tram in time, she said.

The man died at the scene. None of the 20 or so passengers in the tram was hurt.

Metro’s safety and police departments are conducting separate investigations, she said.

The man’s name has not yet been released, she said.

The death is the third involving a Metro train since Feb. 3. Both previous deaths involved bicyclists who pedaled in front of trains on the Red Line.
