Contemporary home in Old Braeswood noted for architecture

- By Lisa Zapalac

Located in the heart of Old Braeswood, known for its distinctive architectural diversity, trees, lot size and convenient access to the Texas Medical Center and downtown, the contemporary-style custom home was designed by Collins Architects and features a kinetic sculpture by renowned artist George Rhoads.

Listing agent Marie Caplan with Beth Wolff Realtors Real Living said the three-story design is one of a kind and showcases details including redwood, teak, natural stone Lutron lighting and walls of glass.

A lovely gate opens to a private courtyard entry with a waterfall pond and metal sculpture of a tree, offering the first look at the features found throughout the home and the property.

The home, with more than 4,400 square feet, showcases well-appointed interiors that connect with the outdoors and the scenic surrounds. Immediate views of the backyard and interior entry are captured in a large living space with teak, redwood cabinets and a stone-surround fireplace.

The great room offers sliding bookshelves that create additional space to display art or keepsakes, and the dining room, which flows into the kitchen, features a floor with an African slate inlay and views of the courtyard and backyard.

A large island, stainless-steel appliances, a breakfast bar, a wine cooler and prep sink and wine cooler are among the highlights of the kitchen. An additional living space with views of the backyard adds to the flexible design of the home and offers an ideal location for reading or relaxing.

A huge balcony and picture window bring in the outdoors in the master suite that includes an elegant bath with natural stone, a rain shower, double sinks and a whirlpool tub complemented by an etched-glass wall.

The home also has large secondary bedrooms, which have access to an elegantly appointed bath.

Located on the third floor is an audio-kinetic sculpture by George Rhoads called “Odyssey of the Spheres.” It is a whimsical ball machine sculpture. The third floor also features a game room with tree-top views, walls of shelves, wood beams and metal doors that open to a full bath.

French doors from the game room lead to an exterior balcony, and an additional area used as a craft room also could be utilized as the home’s fourth bedroom.

Overlooking the landscaped backyard complete with a pool and spa with waterfall features, the covered lanai includes a summer kitchen, a mosquito mister and wireless speakers.

With four bedrooms and 3½ baths, the home at 2522 Blue Bonnet Blvd. is priced at $1,799,000. For more information, visit www.BethWolff.com. About Old Braeswood
