HomeAid community outreach partners with The Way Home

-

HomeAid Houston’s outreach program “Essentials Baskets,” is partnering with Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County to provide “Welcome Home” and “Plentiful Pantry” baskets to families and individuals housed through The Way Home program.

The Way Home is a collaborative model to prevent and end homelessness in Houston, Pasadena, Conroe and Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery Counties. The program comprises more than 100 partners from all areas of the community, and is committed to making data-driven decisions to enact long-term, sustainable solutions for solving homelessness.

“Many people moving into housing don’t have the necessary items to make a house a home,” said Bette Moser, executive director of HomeAid Houston. “It is a fact that people who are in a comfortable housing situation are more likely to remain housed than people in a bare, four-walled apartment. These baskets provide the essentials that can make all the difference.”

With donations of essentials for both the “Welcome Home” and “Plentiful Pantry” baskets, families and individuals no longer have to face restless nights or worry about being hungry.

Donations of food, home items and gift cards help people who were once homeless, heal and become successful in their new lives off the streets.

The basic basket items that can provide comfort and hope to Houston’s homeless include household, cooking, hygiene and cleaning.

“HomeAid’s partnership with The Way Home’s “Welcome Home Fund” is an exciting opportunity for us to work together as we continue our collaborative model to prevent and end homelessness in Houston. Together we can help our displaced Houstonians turn the corner toward building a better life. We look forward to growing and continuing this partnership for many years to come,” said Renee Cavazos, The Way Home Fund Project Coordinator Coalition for the Homeless.

Since 2011, the partners of The Way Home have worked to reduce overall homelessness by more than 57 percent.

HomeAid Houston is a 501(c)(3) charity of the GHBA that builds transformational housing for the homeless. HomeAid’s projects serve more than 5,000 homeless men, women, children and veterans in Houston.
