BETSIE WEATHERFORD

1955-2017

-

Born December 30 in San Marcos, Texas, Betsie passed away on March 28, 2017. Her sisters, Susie Weatherford Beaty and Jane Ellen Shilling, nieces Della Perry and Erin Shilling, nephew Jared Shilling and three great nieces and nephew survive her.

Betsie was famous for her excellent taste, impeccable style and sense of humor. For 23 years, she brought these attributes to the highly respected Ellouise Abbott Showrooms.

Betsie loved her friends. She helped and supported many of them both in and outside the design industry. She was a master of the “small” gesture, often helping in a way that might seem insignificant but was huge to the person receiving it. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Betsie was a major volunteer with DIFFA, serving as Co-chair and on the Board for several year. She helped raise millions of dollars in grants to agencies working in support of the AIDS crisis.

Betsie was a longtime patron of Lazarus House. She was their first Board Chairman and served in other Board positions for several years.

A Memorial in honor of Betsie will be held at the Ellouise Abbott Showroom in the Decorative Center of Houston, 5120 Woodway, Suite 3010 on Tuesday, April 25, 4:00-6:30 pm. If desired, donations in Betsie’s name may be made to Lazarus House, 4106 Austin Street, Houston, TX 77004.
