Three locations provide ideal settings for family getaways

Galveston Island Pleasure Pier, Kemah Boardwalk and the Downtown Aquarium are three incredible amusement locations in the Houston area that provide an ideal setting for a family getaway. Featuring waterfront dining and entertainm­ent, the Kemah Boardwalk and the Pleasure Pier are home to family-oriented rides, midway games, a wide selection of food venues and retail shops. Visitors can soar over the Gulf of Mexico at Pleasure Pier, one of the few spots in the world that has 16 rides over the water. Or they can become bullet proof on the thrilling Boardwalk Bullet rollercoas­ter at the Kemah Boardwalk. From extreme coasters to Ferris wheels and every ride in-between, kids of all ages can a blast at both attraction­s.

Kids and adults can also enjoy the Adventure Exhibit and rides at the Downtown Aquarium, which boasts more than 500,000 gallons of underwater tanks with 200 species of fascinatin­g sea creatures, sharks and marine life. The aquarium offers fully-themed exhibits with life-like scenes that educate and teach visitors about aquatic life in various parts of the world, including the Louisiana Swamp, Ship Wreck, Rain Forest, Sunken Temple and Gulf of Mexico. At the end of their tour, visitors can touch and feed the deep-water dwellers at Stingray Reef, and catch a glimpse of the White Tigers of the Maharaja’s Temple. Guest can take a 15-minute journey on the Shark Voyage Train ride and travel through a tunnel of sharks. The Diving Bell Ferris Wheel offers sweeping views of downtown Houston from under-the-sea themed carriages. The aquatic Carousel, Lighthouse Dive and Frog Hopper are also great fun for the family. No matter which attraction visitors choose, they can expect big fun, big thrills and memories that last a lifetime.
