James Harden had a triple-double — 24 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds — but the Rockets needed a pair of defensive stops at the end to save the win. Kawhi Leonard, who had 34 points, missed his final two shots. On his second miss, LaMarcus Aldridge got the rebound but his tip-in attempt at the buzzer to force overtime was off. Tony Parker sat out for the Spurs.

NOV. 12 AT HOUSTON SPURS 106, ROCKETS 100

DEC. 20 AT HOUSTON SPURS 102, ROCKETS 100

Patty Mills hit a 3-pointer with 12.9 seconds left for the Spurs, and the Rockets missed a pair of 3-pointers — one by Eric Gordon and one by James Harden — as the Rockets’ 10-game winning streak ended. The Rockets led 96-83 with 4:39 to play. The Rockets were 6-of-38 from 3-point range. “We missed 30-something 3s and still had a chance,” Harden said.

MARCH 6 AT SAN ANTONIO SPURS 112, ROCKETS 110

Kawhi Leonard outscored James Harden 17-4 in the fourth quarter, but it was his defense that made the difference. Leonard blocked a Harden layup from behind with 18.9 seconds left to preserve a two-point lead. “The block is what makes him special,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. Leonard and Harden each finished the game with 39 points.
