JOHN ROBERT DIETERT

1935-2017

-

John Robert Dietert passed away peacefully on April 21, 2017 surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna and children: Cheryl Robinson and husband Mark, Mark Dietert and fiancée Crystal and Karen O’Neill and husband Erik and grandchildren: Joel, Emily, Dalton, Skyeler and Samantha.

John was born to Bob and Maxine Dietert in Kenedy, Texas on August 5, 1935. He graduated from Texas A&I University in 1958. Soon after, Uncle Sam requested his presence in the Army and he was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany for two years. Upon returning from the service he worked as a CPA in South Texas. In 1964 John moved his family to Houston and began his employment with the stock brokerage firm, Rotan Mosle.

John was a devoted and extremely involved family man - coaching little league, serving as President of the PTA, and was one of six founding members of Kinsmen Lutheran Church, which recently celebrated its 45th anniversary. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, fishing, sailing, camping and running. In his later years, he studied Spanish and traveled extensively in Mexico, Portugal, France and Spain. Some have said, half-jokingly, that John was the original “most interesting man in the world”. Yet his family and their well-being always came first.

Towards the end of his life, John was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He fought a brave battle and kept his sense of humor and positive outlook.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to his caretakers, Josie, Maria 1, Maria 2, Carole, and Vickie for their loving devotion to John. Their commitment and compassion allowed him to be comfortable and happy his last few years.

A memorial service honoring John’s life will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in the sanctuary of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, in Houston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John’s memory be directed to The Gathering - a memory care ministry at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056.
