Top care is key for Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital’s nurses
Committed to providing exceptional health care to the northwest Houston community, Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital positively impacted 135,000 patients in 2016 and already has helped another 51,000 patients in 2017.
Caring for these patients, in addition to other members of the multidisciplinary team, is the hospital’s outstanding team of nurses.
“Our nurses are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital. They fulfill a critical role in providing high quality care to our patients and supporting patients’ families who are caring for their loved ones,” said TaShauna McCray, chief nursing officer at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital.
And while nursing comes with its share of challenges, Michelle Kimery, BSN, RN at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, said the interactions she shares with patients and their families make nursing worthwhile.
“Some of the biggest challenges I face as a nurse in the neonatal ICU are the mental, physical and emotional drain of a 12-hour shift caring for a critical or unstable baby. I also become emotionally invested in my patients, as well as their families, so I am with them celebrating joys, as well as standing alongside them during challenges,” Kimery said. “It’s truly a miraculous blessing to see the tiniest patients grow and develop into functioning infants ready to go home with their parents. There is nothing more rewarding than that.”
Doreen Gonzales, MSN, RN, off-site emergency room nurse manager at the hospital, said nurses are diverse professionals who develop competencies in the many facets of health care.
“But even with different roles, nurses have one ultimate goal, and that is to be advocates for their patients. Decisions are always geared toward the betterment of patient outcomes. With the ever-burgeoning field of nursing, there will be so much more we can achieve in the future,” she said.
