Dr. Carol Jones Vobach, age 76, died Thursday May 11, 2017, following a stroke. Born in 1940 in Yonkers, New York Carol held a bachelor’s degree from Marymount Manhattan College, a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina, and a doctorate from the University of Houston.

Carol was the longest serving professor at the University of Houston Downtown, having taught mathematic­s there since 1968, when the institutio­n was known as South Texas Junior College. It was there at 1 Main Street in Houston, Texas, while grading final exams that her soul departed her body.

She was a beloved member of the choir of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and a volunteer at Methodist Hospital. She traveled to Europe almost every year, was an animal lover, and offered a surrogate home for ladies who might otherwise be alone during the holidays.

She is preceded in death by husband Arnold Raleigh Vobach, and is survived by her son William Houston, stepdaught­er Vajeh Barazandeh and sister Mary Lou Burns.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 20th at ten o’clock in the morning at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1805 West Alabama Street, Houston, Texas with Reverend Lisa Hunt officiatin­g. Reception to follow at St. Stephen’s Church.

Carol was a steadfast supporter of the arts. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring her by contributi­ng to your local symphony, opera, theater, or museums of your choice.
