Late score results in 3rd straight loss for Waldrum’s club Dash update

Andressinha’s first-half strike trumped in 85th

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — A late goal by the home team handed the Dash their third consecutive loss Saturday afternoon.

Sky Blue FC’s Raquel Rodriguez used a toe poke in a crowd inside the 6-yard box to give her team a 2-1 victory at Rutgers University’s Yurcak Field.

The winning goal came in the 85th minute when the Dash failed to clear a free kick into the penalty area.

Saturday’s contest was a rematch of the May 13 game at BBVA Compass Stadium, which Sky Blue FC won 3-1.

Just like it did in last weekend’s game, Sky Blue scored the opener on a penalty kick by Sarah Killion. Sky Blue was awarded the penalty in the 20th minute after Dash midfielder Amber Brooks slid from behind to break up a crossing pass at the edge of the 6-yard box.

Unlike last week, the Dash responded with energy and execution.

In the 40th minute, Kealia Ohai beat a defender on the right side and dribbled into the penalty area. Ohai centered a pass back to Andressinha, who banged a shot off the left post.

The ball rebounded to the middle of the box, and Andressinha got to it first to finish into an empty net.

Sky Blue would have regained the lead in the 68th Saturday: Sky Blue FC 2, Dash 1. Record: 2-4-0. May 27: Seattle Reign FC at BBVA Compass Stadium, 3 p.m. minute had it not been for Dash goalkeeper Lydia Williams. Samantha Kerr jumped for a header on the 6-yard line and hit it toward the cross bar. Williams reacted in time to catch it with both hands.

Williams is a fixture in the defensive third, but one Dash player made her NWSL debut in that area Saturday. Forward Rachel Daly played right back as one of three new starters from last week’s back line that left coach Randy Waldrum unhappy.

Daly was not new to the position. She has played wing back with the England national team. Other changes on the back line were Poliana at left back and Cami Privett at center back.
