TOMMIE MILLER JAKSA

-

1924-2017

Tommie Jaksa passed away June 1, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Coleman County, Texas, March 14, 1924, to Roscoe Fulton and Evelyn Florine Miller, the second of eight children. Upon graduation from Mozelle High School, she began working at the Army Air Force Base training facility in Coleman. While there, she met Edward Jaksa; they were married December 27, 1944.

After serving in the Asiatic Pacific theatre, and upon his return to Texas, Tommie and Ed settled in the Bellewood neighborhood. Their home was a welcome gathering place for family, neighbors, and friends. Tommie was a long-time member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church where she attended Bible Study Discussion and Sunday School classes.

A child of the depression and the trials of war, life wasn’t easy. She had a strong constitution and loved her family passionately. She was a loving and devoted daughter, mother, sister, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her parents, her husband, sister Geraldine, brother Larry, and grandson Blake, preceded her in death. Survivors are her son, Edward Albert, Jr. (Melanie), and daughters, T.J. (Dennis Beck) and Judie (Ridge Stockdale). Also surviving are her brothers, Robert, Glen (Irma), Sam (Barbara), Victor (Shirley), and her sister, Wanda. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Julie Beck (Scott Waidelich), Alan Beck (Melanie), Brett and Brandon Miles (Olivia), Morgan Stockdale (Ryan Chapple), Cory Stockdale (Adam Lenker), Kacie Jaksa (Grant Miller), Ashton Jaksa (Stephen Swan), and Austin Jaksa, fifteen great grandchildren and numerous family members.

Tommie’s family would like to acknowledge with grateful appreciation her dedicated and compassionate caregivers, Marcy Hickman and Melda Encomienda.

In keeping with the quiet life she lived, the family will gather for a private memorial celebration on Friday, June 9. In lieu of flowers, and for those desiring, remembrances may be sent to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, 77024, or to your charity of choice.
