Fuchs wins gold at Continental
Team USA picked up six medals on the sixth day of the 2017 Continental Championships, including two gold medals from flyweight Virginia Fuchs (Kemah) and heavyweight Danielle Perkins (Houston), at the Coliseum Nacional de Ingenieros in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The day began with lightweight Delante Johnson (Cleveland) and welterweight Quinton Randall (Katy) advancing to the championship bouts after taking unanimous decision victories in their respective classes.
Johnson’s victory over Venezuela’s Luis Cabrera landed him in the finals against threetime world champion and two-time Olympic bronze medalist Lazaro Alvarez of Cuba. Randall, in his first international tournament, will step into the ring against Alvarez’s teammate and 2012 Olympic champion Roniel Iglesias following his semifinal victory over the Dominican Republic’s Juan Solano.
Fuchs won all five judges card over Canada’s Mandy Bujold to take her third international title of the year.
