Shooting of Republican lawmaker at congressional baseball practice brings moment of unity during political war of words
On Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions beat back rumors of a private meeting with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. and mounted a defense for President Donald Trump, one week after former FBI Director James Comey unloaded on both men. The following day, more than 100 Democrats joined together to sue Trump over his profiting from business deals involving foreign governments — and doing so without congressional consent. Also Wednesday, the special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election interviewed senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that included an examination of whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice. On Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence lawyered up. On Friday, the Trump administration announced that it was reversing parts of Obama’s Cuba policy on travel and trade.
