Officer injured after cruiser is hit from behind

-

A Houston police officer was injured early Saturday when his cruiser was rear-ended by an alleged drunken driver.

The incident happened around 3:50 a.m. as the officer was on patrol in downtown Houston.

The officer was traveling westbound on Pease and stopped for a red light at the intersection of San Jacinto.

“As soon as the light turns green, the officer begins to pull forward and that’s when he’s rearended,” Houston Police Department spokesman John Cannon said.

The accident was caused by a woman in her early 20s driving an orange Toyota Corolla. She was found to be intoxicated and will face charges, Cannon said.

The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center for treatment. He sustained injuries to his back and neck that are not life-threatening, Cannon said.
