Scent of a special session
Regarding “Special session opens with sense of déjà vu (Wednesday page A1), when Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick referred to Gov. Greg Abbott’s legislative agenda as “the people’s priorities,” what people is he exactly referring to? This offensive things-to-do list is a slap in the face to moderates of both parties, business leaders, women, school districts and teachers, Hispanics, the LGBT population and anyone in favor of trade, local autonomy or trees.
House Speaker Joe Straus, one of the few adults on duty, has rightly compared the special session agenda to a pile of manure. I admire his sense of smell.
