SUZANNE “SUSIE” SANDLIN GAY

Suzanne “Susie” Sandlin Gay passed away on Tuesday, the 18th of July 2017. Susie was born on the 30th of December 1942, in Houston, Texas, to Mary Elizabeth Brown Sandlin and Marlin E. Sandlin, Sr. She attended St. John’s School in Houston, TX and went on to attend Sophie Newcomb College and University of Texas. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science.

Susie enjoyed researchin­g her family’s history, relaying family stories and taking care of treasured family photos and mementoes. This passion led her to help others by volunteeri­ng at the Clayton Library Center for Genealogic­al Research in Houston.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister, Carole Elizabeth Sandlin. She is survived by her brother, Marlin E. Sandlin, Jr., M.D. of Houston and his wife Amy Chaisson; her son, John Gay of Dallas; her daughter, Nan Islam of Florida and Nan’s husband, Joel; and grandson and granddaugh­ter Jacob and Melissa Islam. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Marlin E. Sandlin, III of Los Angeles, Benjamin Sandlin of Cambridge, MA, Chaille and Larry Garcia of San Antonio TX, Maria Bagby of Solana Beach CA, Hoyt and Teresa Brown of Houston TX, Marlin and Joey Brown of Bangkok, Thailand, Joseph Burnett of Albuquerqu­e NM, Holly Womack of Albuquerqu­e NM and Charles Burnett of Irvine CA.

The memorial service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 19th of August, in the chapel of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Rev. Thomas Harper is to officiate.

The family will gather at a later time for a private interment in Woodville, Texas.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, the family requests that memorial contributi­ons, in Susie’s memory, be directed to the Clayton Library Friends, P.O. Box 271078, Houston, TX 77277-1078; or to the charity of one’s choice.
