Christine S. Cheng, M.D. of Houston died on Sunday, the 6th of August 2017, after a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 47.

Dr. Cheng was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on the world’s first Earth Day on the 22nd of April 1970. She and her family immigrated to the United States in 1981 and ultimately settled in Beaumont, Texas. Growing up she was an accomplish­ed pianist and eventually attended the University of Texas at Austin, where Dr. Cheng graduated with honors in Piano Performanc­e, while completing her pre-medical studies. Following graduation, she enrolled in the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Cheng completed her Medical Residency at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston and later earned Board Certificat­ion in Family Medicine.

Dr. Cheng was widely recognized for her skills as a physician and her compassion and care for her patients. In 2014, after opening Nuveau Medical Aesthetics -- a premier skin rejuvenati­on and laser center in Houston -- Dr. Cheng was named one of Houston’s Top Doctors by H-Texas Magazine.

Dr. Cheng had numerous passions and accomplish­ments, including acceptance into the prestigiou­s Van Cliburn Internatio­nal Amateur Piano Competitio­n in Ft. Worth in 2011. Throughout her life she made many friends in the worlds of academia, medicine and music.

Dr. Cheng is survived by her loving family: Husband Grant M. Scheiner and son Gavin C. Scheiner of Houston; father Frank Cheng and mother Susan Cheng of Houston; brother Peter H. Cheng, M.D., sister-in-law Joyce Cheng, M.D., and their daughters Madeline and Allison, of Los Altos, California; cousins Linda Hsu, her husband Charles C. Pao, M.D., and their sons Harrison and Jonathan of Boston; cousin Lawrence Hsu, his wife Michelle Cate, and their daughter, Isabella, of Beaumont; cousin Jim C. Hsu, M.D., his wife, Elisa Barston, and their daughter Melia, of Seattle; cousin Cindy Tang-Lin, her husband Stephen Lin, their children Noah and Emma, of Dallas; cousin Amy Tang, M.D., her husband Bryan Ho, their sons Grayson and Lincoln, of Baltimore.

At a later date, the family will gather for a private memorial service.
