HomeAid Project receives gift of words at Boys and Girls Country

-

HomeAid Houston and Lennar/Village Builders are teaming up to construct an 8,100-square-foot cottage for eight children from families in crisis on the Boys and Girls Country campus in Hockley. To help celebrate the framing stage of this new home, the team from Lennar/Village Builders came together at the site to write words of encouragement and blessing on the frame of the house, before it is covered with drywall.

This was also an opportunity for the boys who will be moving into the house, along with their teaching parents, to walk through and experience the early stages of construction, and to write their own messages of hope and inspiration.

“Our team is grateful HomeAid gave us this opportunity to provide a new and enhanced cottage for these wonderful boys,” said Cindy Hinson, director of community affairs for Lennar/ Village Builders. “This day’s event allowed us to express our joy of giving through written messages which will continue to inspire the boys as they visit the home during the next phase of construction.”

As the builder captain of the project, Lennar/ Village Builders is being led by Marco Cordon, director of construction. Lennar/Village Builders is recruiting vendors and trades to donate materials and labor to assist in the construction.

This new facility has been named the Hamill Cottage with funding for its construction provided to Boys and Girls Country by the Hamill Foundation.

The mission of Boys and Girls Country, established in 1971, is to change the lives of children from families in crisis by loving and nurturing them in a Christian home environment, raising them to become self-sustaining and contributing adults. Children are from the greater Houston area, which includes 13 counties.

Located 35 miles northwest of Houston, Boys and Girls Country has capacity to serve 48 boys and 40 girls, ages 5-18, for a total of 88 children at any one time.

“It was a lovely experience to share in this ceremony with the boys and the Lennar/ Village team,” said Bette Moser, executive director of HomeAid Houston. “This new project is a tremendous opportunity to continue the momentum we have since we completed the first cottage with Partners in Building as that builder captain. It is always exciting to meet the children and to share in their joy throughout construction.”

HomeAid was started in 2003, and the first shelter was dedicated in 2005. Since then, 42 projects have been completed.
