Vendors' donations crucial to Westin Benefit home

-

To build a Greater Houston Builders Association Benefit home, it takes a team of generous builders, developers, suppliers and trades to make it a successful fundraiser. Westin Homes is accomplishing that as they continue construction of their Carter III plan that when sold at market value, will benefit two local charities.

Each year, the two homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project with as many donations as possible. The homes offer popular upgrades and stylish amenities that help ensure a custom-style design. Once the homes are sold, proceeds benefit HomeAid Houston, a charity that builds transitional housing for the homeless, and Operation Finally Home, another charity that is construction-related that builds homes locally for wounded veterans returning from duty. Since the project began 37 years ago, $10 million has been raised.

“As we began to prepare to build the Benefit home, knowing that we maintain very strong working relationships and communication lines with our vendors and suppliers, the response Westin received from them in terms of involvement and generosity was overwhelming and very quick,” said Patrick Mayhan, vice president of purchasing for Westin Homes. “These companies generously donate their time, goods and services over the years, and they appreciate the importance and impact their contributions to those less fortunate have made.”

Vendors donating include: Quality Drywall, IES Residential, DrainRite Seamless Gutters, Lennox Industries, HOUK Air Conditioning, Installed Building Products, Owens Corning Roofing, Owens Corning Insulation Ellen Lighting, Kichler Lighting, Arrow Glass Industries, Royal Bath Manufacturing, Monument Plumbing and Delta Faucets.

Another donation includes the homesite for the project. The lots are typically in prime communities that feature amenities. Westin is building its Benefit home on a lot donated by Land Tejas Cos. in its new community of Lago Mar.

The community is in the Clear Lake/ Galveston area off I-45 south. This is the 15th Benefit lot donation by Land Tejas, which is an approximate $1,080,000 total value.

Westin’s 4019-square-foot Carter III B elevation plan includes five bedrooms (two on the first floor), 4½ bathrooms and a two-car garage with additional 5 feet. The foyer offers a view of the triple-tiered rotunda ceiling and curved stairway.

The home offers a formal dining room, study and a two-story family room with a wall of windows. The island kitchen with upgraded cabinets and a breakfast area is the heart of the home.

The private master suite has a double tiered tray ceiling with no bedrooms above for a quiet setting. Upstairs is a game room and adjacent media room. Outside the rear of the home is a covered patio.
