No. 20 TCU surges by SMU; Vandy stuns No. 18 Kansas St.

FORT WORTH — Jalen Reagor made a leaping 38-yard catch among four defenders in the end zone on the last play of the first half, putting No. 20 TCU ahead to stay in a 56-36 victory over upset-minded SMU on Saturday.

The Mustangs (2-1) led 19-7 before Kenny Hill threw three TD passes in the final 7½ minutes of the second quarter. The last was Reagor’s catch.

Darius Anderson ran for two touchdowns for TCU (3-0) in the second half. Kenedy Snell also scored twice, while Hill completed 24 of 30 passes for 365 yards and four touchdowns.

Kyle Shurmur scored on a 2-yard run with 8:23 left, and the Commodores held on to upset the No. 18 Wildcats at Nashville, Tenn. It was Vanderbilt’s first win over a ranked non-conference opponent since 1946.

Vanderbilt improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2011.

Jesse Ertz tried to drive the Wildcats to the tying score. But he was tackled short on fourth-and-8 with 1:06 to play. TEXAS TECH 52 ARIZONA ST. 45

Nic Shimonek passed for 543 yards and six touchdowns and Dylan Cantrell scored three times as the Red Raiders won in Lubbock.

The Red Raiders (2-0) led 35-17 in the third quarter before the Sun Devils (1-2) rallied to tie it at 45-45.

Cantrell scored from 3 yards out on his only carry of the night for the deciding TD with two minutes to play.

Tech’s Keke Coutee caught 12 passes for 186 yards and a TD. Cantrell finished with eight receptions for 160 yards and two scores. OKLAHOMA ST. 59 PITTSBURGH 21

Mason Rudolph gave his Heisman Trophy campaign a boost by throwing five touchdown passes during the first half to help the No. 9 Cowboys rout the Panthers at Pittsburgh.

The Cowboys (3-0) reached the end zone on each of their first seven possession­s, piling up 516 yards in the process, a school record for most yards in one half.

Rudolph finished 23-of32 for 497 yards before being pulled in the middle of the third quarter with the Cowboys up by 42. He did throw his first intercepti­on of the season, ending a streak of 216 passes without a pick. DUKE 34, BAYLOR 20

Shaun Wilson rushed for 176 yards and scored on runs of 50 and 65 yards to help the Blue Devils beat the Bears at Durham, N.C.

The Blue Devils (3-0) opened with three consecutiv­e victories for just the second time since 1994.

Sophomore Zach Smith was 12-of-34 for 263 yards with three TD passes in his first start of the season for Baylor (0-3).

The Bears are off to their worst start since the 1999 team opened with four straight losses on its way to a 1-10 finish in Kevin Steele’s first season. OKLAHOMA 56, TULANE 14

Baker Mayfield passed for 331 yards and four touchdowns, and the No. 2 Sooners beat the Green Wave at Norman, Okla.

Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb caught four passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns before he was ejected for targeting in the second quarter. Marquise Brown had career highs of six catches for 155 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown for the Sooners (3-0). IOWA ST. 41, AKRON 14

Jacob Park passed for 317 yards and two touchdowns as the Cyclones pulled away in the second half at Akron.

Park completed 24 of 33 throws and a scored on a 14-yard run for the Cyclones (2-1). ISU’s David Montgomery ran for 127 yards and a score. WEST VIRGINIA 59 DELAWARE ST. 16

Will Grier threw three touchdown passes, Justin Crawford ran for three scores, and the Mountainee­rs (2-1) compiled 538 yards of offense against the Hornets (0-3) at Morgantown, W.Va.

Nathan Rourke threw for 152 yards and two TDs as the Bobcats extended the Jayhawks’ road losing streak to 42 games, the longest active streak in the nation.
