PHILLIP D. EVANS

1945-2017

-

Phillip Dean Evans passed away peacefully on September 15, 2017, at age 71. Born in Terra Haute, Indiana on November 1, 1945, the eldest son of Ola Mae & William Evans. At a young age, Phil and his brother, Steve, began attending the Indianapolis 500 auto race with their father. The brothers attended the race together for nearly 40 years, photographing it from pit row for a local newspaper. After graduating from Southern Illinois University in 1967, Phil moved to Wyoming to start his engineering career with Marathon Oil Corporation. His work in the oil and gas industry then took him to Nebraska and Oklahoma before landing in Houston, Texas where he lived the rest of his life.

Phil was a lifetime member of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, with his wife Melanie. They held numerous roles with the International Committee over 25 years. He cherished their “rodeo friends” and the fun times they had enjoying a great steak or brisket cooked to perfection by Phil. His expertise around a grill and his love of cooking were legendary. Hunting was another passion of Phil’s, he was fortunate to experience hunts in many locales in North and South America but a favorite spot was Brackettville, TX. He leaves behind family members and so many friends who will miss his great sense of humor and natural ability to entertain us at the rodeo, on hunting trips, and bar-b-que dinners at home.

Phil is survived by his wife Melanie Faught and her children Todd (wife Kim), Craig (wife Kathy) and Ashley (husband Bob); his brother Steve (wife Denise); 2 nieces Lindsay and Brittany; and 7 grandchildren Kendall, Rylan, Cole, Chloe, Charlie, Bobby, and Lily.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 27th at 1 pm at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church; 11612 Memorial Drive; Houston, TX 77024.
