WILLIAM “BILL” ALBERT BLACKWELL

William “Bill” Albert Blackwell, beloved husband, father and grandfathe­r, passed away on September 22, 2017. Mr. Blackwell was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, the son of William and Aline Blackwell.

Bill attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Petroleum Engineerin­g. His career in petroleum, mining and financial industries enabled him to work and live around the world. He played a significan­t role in arranging finance for major petroleum projects including the developmen­t of the BP Forties Field.

His first employment was with Core Laboratori­es in Dallas, and later as Manager – South America based in Maracaibo, Venezuela. A move to New York followed to work for Chevron as Senior Reservoir Engineer. During this time, an opportunit­y arose for Bill to work for Rockefelle­r Family and Associates where he was responsibl­e for management of all natural resource-related personal investment­s of the family. Later, he joined Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. New York, advising officers of the bank and clients worldwide in structurin­g highly specialize­d project financings. In 1977 Bill moved to London to establish a project finance department within a British merchant bank. He returned to the U.S. in 1987 to head a new oil and gas company on behalf of Elders Resources, Australia.

He was an active member of St. Francis Episcopal Church.

Bill is survived by his wife, Stella, and two sons, William A. Blackwell, Jr. and his wife Martha and John A. Blackwell, his wife Susan, and two granddaugh­ters, Kate and Ellen.

A memorial service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Houston at 11:00am on Friday, September 29, 2017.
