DAPHNE KERR LOFT

Daphne Kerr Loft, 81, loving mother, grandmothe­r, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on August 3, 2017, with her beloved family at her side. Daphne was predecease­d by her mother and father, Marjorie Lee and Andrew E. Kerr, her husband, Peter Selmer Loft, two grandchild­ren, Devan Campbell Loft and Mark Peter Ronan and her friend Hattie Red Davis, who deeply loved Daphne and four generation­s of Daphne’s family. Daphne was born in Houston, Texas on March 10, 1936, and graduated from the Kinkaid School as valedictor­ian of her class. She attended Smith College, graduated from Douglass College and received her Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University.

She is survived by her three devoted sisters, Randa Kerr Davis, Kyra Kerr-Fitzgerald, and Norie Kerr Baldwin; four children, Dana Loft, Peter Loft, Jr, Andrew Loft and Kirsten Gray; and 13 grandchild­ren, Andrew, Alex, and Robert Ronan, Peter, Coulter, Ty, Lily and Leo Loft, and Kyra, Elena, Cornelia and Peter Gray.

She raised her family in Westfield, NJ and after that made her home in New York, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Marin County, California. She devoted many years to her work as a mental health counselor in New York City. She enjoyed the beach and all creatures related to the ocean. She especially loved Bay Head, NJ, where she spent summer vacations with her grandchild­ren.

A memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Clay Lein and the Rev. Randall Trego, will be held at St. John the Divine Chapel, 2450 River Oaks Blvd in Houston, on Saturday, October 14 at 4pm. Reception to follow immediatel­y after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Way of Greater Houston or your favorite charity.
