1931-2017

-

The Pomeranian community has lost a legend and a Friendswood family lost its brightest light when Olga Moore Baker passed away on September 5, 2017 at the age of 86. She was born on June 30, 1931 in Stamford, TX and in 1950 married Darrell Wayne Baker, with whom she spent 65 wonderful years until his death in 2015. She and Darrell bred award-winning Dachshunds and Pomeranians for 50+ years and founded the Houston Pomeranian Club. Known to fellow dog breeders as the “Pom Lady”, Olga owned and showed Great Elms Prince Charming II, the only Pomeranian ever to win Best in Show at the world-renowned Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. She was the author of Pomeranian (2005), as well as a contributor to many Pomeranian publications. She was also no stranger to television, having appeared on “60 Minutes”, “Good Morning America” and numerous commercials for Pedigree dog food.

She served as secretary of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, ARCO Oil and Gas and Armco Steel.

Her family will remember her hilarious sense of humor, her amazing cooking skills and her writing and acting talents.

She is survived by brother Jerry Moore and wife Linda Moore of Kerrville, TX, daughters Toni Hodges and Jeri’ Goldsmith and sonin-law Bobby Goldsmith of Friendswood, TX, grandson Barrett Goldsmith of Los Angeles, grandson Baker Goldsmith and husband Justin of Houston, and granddaughter Brittany Goldsmith Turner and husband David Turner of Houston and great-grandson Callum Turner. She also leaves behind her six beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.
