Oklahoma St. outlasts Tech; Kansas St. fends off Baylor

LUBBOCK — Quarterback Mason Rudolph ran 16 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the final two minutes and No. 15 Oklahoma State beat Texas Tech 41-34 on Saturday night.

Rudolph’s second rushing score came after three TD tosses as the Cowboys (4-1, 1-2 Big 12) bounced back from a home loss to ninth-ranked TCU and avoided a second early conference loss in their pursuit of the revived Big 12 championship game.

The Cowboys held the Red Raiders (3-1, 0-1) to 384 yards, about 200 yards below the third-best average in the county coming in, and stopped Texas Tech after Matt Ammendola missed an 18-yard field goal that would have given the Cowboys the lead with 5:30 remaining.

Rudolph led the Cowboys’ 79-yard drive to the decisive score. Marcell Ateman made a jump-ball catch over Octavious Morgan for 26 yards on third down. Two plays later, Rudolph faked a handoff and ran untouched to the right corner of the end zone with 1:12 remaining. KANSAS ST. 33, BAYLOR 20

Jesse Ertz ran for two touchdowns and the Wildcats withstood a furious second-half rally to post a win over the visiting Bears.

Ertz had 12 carries for 95 yards, including a 15yard run in the 3rd quarter to extend the Kansas State lead to 27-13. The Wildcats tipped the balance of their offense in the second half with just five pass attempts compared to 23 rushes. For the game, the Wildcats (3-1,1-0 Big 12) ran the ball 43 times for 225 yards and two touchdowns.

After falling behind 17-3 at the half, the Bears had a chance to tie, but a bad snap over the head of Zach Smith was recovered by the Wildcats near the end of the 3rd quarter.

Smith finished the contest with 291 yards passing on 44 attempts and one touchdown.

Kansas State is 10-5 after coming off of an off week since 2009. Baylor falls to 0-5 for the first time since 1978.

Up next, the Wildcats are at Texas Saturday. The Bears play at Oklahoma State on Oct. 14.
