Balinese unease

Houston Chronicle Sunday - - WORLD -

The restive Agung volcano on the Indonesian resort island of Bali continued to rumble, and some of the 144,000 people who initially fled due to terrifying volcanic swarms say they are afraid to go back to their homes outside the immediate danger zone.

Ongoing daily tremors and bursts of steam from the summit have caused parts of the normally bustling tourist region to be nearly deserted.

Mount Agung hasn’t erupted since 1963, when it killed about 1,000 people.
