It’s easy to add new space to your home

- By David Norman

Home additions and outdoor living spaces continue to gain popularity as society continues to evolve.

As the baby boomers continue to age, more and more seniors are choosing to move back in with their children. In a study by the Pew Research Center, 49 million people are now living in a multigenerational home.

Furthermore, it is no secret that more kids are moving back home. According to another study by the Pew Research Center, 40 percent of young adults live at home with their parents. With these numbers, it should come as no surprise that more people are choosing to add space to their existing home rather than taking on the task and expense of moving.

If you have the space, adding a master suite addition or guest quarters is not only the perfect solution to housing more family members, but it can also add great value to your home. This is seen by the flexibility a space like this can bring to your home. Just imagine the possibilities.

If you choose to move or if your parents or child decide to move out, this space can be used for a number of things. Obviously a space like this can be the perfect guest retreat, allowing more comfort and privacy to both you and your guests. This space can be a game room, home gym, “man cave,” home office, studio, home theater and more.

One of the first responses all homeowners bring up while updating their home is more space. People like to store photos, toys, bikes, workout equipment, art as well as music equipment and more.

An addition instantly adds to your usable square footage. Whether it is a larger kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, family room or outdoor living space, the possibilities are endless. In some cases a very small addition can yield huge results. Adding a few extra feet to an existing kitchen or bathroom can make for a world of possibilities. Whether you choose to add a family room, dining room or anything else that comes to mind, a home addition will give you the extra space.

A home addition can be less expensive and more convenient than moving. If you are in a home that you love but realize that the home doesn’t have the rooms and space you want and need, a home addition is a great option. Instead of the cost and expense, not to mention the hassle that comes with moving your entire family, consider a home addition.
