Nate kills 22 in Central America, hits central Gulf

On Thursday, Tropical Storm Nate killed at least 22 people in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Honduras, dumping rain and causing widespread flooding and landslides before barreling northward toward popular Mexican resorts and the Gulf Coast. On Friday, the storm gained hurricane strength and was expected to threaten Louisiana and Mississipp­i. Louisiana declared a national emergency ahead of the storm. On Saturday night, Hurricane Nate made landfall near the mouth of the Mississipp­i River and was expected to make a second landfall. From online and wire reports
