Nobel Peace Prize goes to anti-nukes campaign
On Friday, The 2017 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), a group campaigning for nuclear disarmament. The decision comes amid growing tensions between the U.S. and North Korea and as President Donald Trump reportedly considers ending a nuclear deal with Iran. The campaign was awarded for its work “to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences” of nuclear weapons and “its groundbreaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition.”
