No. 6 TCU wins waiting game

- From wire reports

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kenny Hill threw for 297 yards and ran for a touchdown, TCU’s defense shut down Kansas State’s ailing offense and the sixth-ranked Horned Frogs remained unbeaten with a weather-delayed 26-6 victory over the Wildcats on Saturday.

Sewo Olonilua added two short touchdown runs for TCU (6-0, 3-0 Big 12), whose gritty defense held Kansas State (3-3, 1-2) without points both times the Wildcats ventured into the red zone.

Kansas State was forced to play without quarterback Jesse Ertz, who was hurt in last week’s double-overtime loss at Texas. Sophomore backup Alex Delton got his first start and was 11-of-29 passing for 146 yards, struggling to run coach Bill Snyder’s complex offense against the Big 12’s best defense. The Wildcats’ ground-based attack managed just 70 yards on 29 carries.

After kickoff was delayed three hours because of lightning, the Horned Frogs wasted little time in taking the lead. Their defense got the ball back deep in Kansas State territory, and Aaron Hicks pounded away five consecutive times before Hill scampered in from 7 yards out for the score.

Jonathan Song added a pair of field goals later in the first half.

Early in the fourth quarter, another lightning delay sent the teams back to the locker room. Only a few thousand waterlogged fans were left when the teams returned to play the final 12:49. OKLAHOMA ST. 59 BAYLOR 16

Mason Rudolph passed for 459 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score to help the No. 14 Cowboys overwhelm the Bears at Stillwater, Okla.

Rudolph guided an offense that gained a school-record 747 yards as the senior got his first career win in four tries against Baylor.

Oklahoma State’s James Washington caught six passes for 235 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for a 2-yard score. Marcell Ateman caught four passes for 119 yards and a touchdown, and Justice Hill ran for 117 yards and a score for the Cowboys (5-1, 2-1 Big 12).

The Cowboys grabbed control with a 28-point second quarter that made it 35-10 at halftime.

Terence Williams ran for 95 yards for Baylor (0-6, 0-3). Denzel Mims, one of the most productive receivers in the nation this season, was held to 20 yards on two catches. IOWA ST. 45, KANSAS 0

David Montgomery ran for a career-high three touchdowns as the Cyclones thrashed the Jayhawks at Ames, Iowa, for their second consecutive victory.

Trever Ryen added a 68-yard punt return for a score for Iowa State (4-2, 2-1 Big 12), which held Kansas to a season-low 106 yards and shut out a Big 12 opponent for just the fourth time.

Montgomery turned an interception into a 4-yard TD run to open the scoring, and Ryen’s return gave the Cyclones 14-0 lead.

A bad snap on a punt by the Jayhawks (1-5, 0-3) led to Montgomery’s 1-yard TD plunge that pushed Iowa State ahead 24-0, and Marchie Murdock’s 8-yard TD reception to end the third quarter made it 38-0.

Kansas, which was averaging 26.5 points in two Big 12 games, punted 13 times and was 2-of-17 on third down and didn’t get into Cyclones territory until midway through the fourth quarter.
