Laura Lee Fendley Hicks passed away on Tuesday, the 10th of October 2017, in Houston. She is survived by her children, James Galen Younger (Sharon) of Houston, Allison Younger McMillan (Mark) of Houston, Lucinda Hicks Jeffers (Mike) of Venice, FL, Margot Hicks Taunton of Kerrville, TX, and Loring Hicks Drefke (David) of McAllen, TX, and nine beloved grandchild­ren. Laura Lee is predecease­d by her husband, James M. Hicks, and two children, Laura Lee Younger and Douglas Fendley Younger.

Laura Lee was born on the 20th of July 1929, in Houston, a fourth generation Houstonian, of parents Augusta Breed Fendley of Houston and Francis Tarrant Fendley, Sr. of Galveston, TX. She graduated Lamar High School in 1947 and attended The University of Texas in Austin, having recently received her 65-yr membership pin from Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In 1952, Laura Lee became a member of the Houston Junior League and later transferre­d to the Junior League of McAllen, TX when she and Jim Hicks married in 1972. Laura Lee and Jim enjoyed their life together and especially shared a love of dove hunting in Mexico.

While living in the valley, Laura Lee was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pharr, TX and served on the Vestry, one year as Senior Warden. She was President of the Women’s Guild and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Helping Hands Thrift Shop in addition to various other church related activities.

Laura Lee and Jim moved to Kerrville, TX in 2007 before moving to Houston in 2010 where they were members of St. John the Divine Church where Laura Lee’s family were early church members.

While in Houston, friends and family enjoyed Laura Lee’s generosity, hospitalit­y and her ever present sense of humor which she said, along with her deep faith, helped her to weather the storms in her life. Her birthday party each summer was always a memorable event and gathered together those she loved in celebratio­n of her long and well-lived life.

A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 21st of October, in the Chapel of the Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, friends and family are encouraged to make a memorial contributi­on to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX, 77030, or to the charity of their choice.
