A Woodlands-area man has been recognized as the 2017 “Franchisee of the Year” by an international pizza restaurant brand.

Russo’s Restaurants honored Guillermo Medellin, who operates three restaurant concepts in Texas, with the award at a conference in Washington, D.C., during the International Franchise Association’s gala where approximately 500 people were in attendance.

“This award is a testament to the hard work we put in each and every day at all of our restaurants, and the amazing people we have on board to help us do so,” Medellin said in a statement. “I can’t wait to share the news and celebrate this award with my team.”

Medellin, originally from Mexico, worked in the manufacturing industry before moving to the United States. He purchased his first Russo’s franchise in 2009. His three franchise locations are in Spring, Houston and The Woodlands on College Park Drive.

Medellin was chosen based on a combination of sales achievements, dedication to the industry and community leadership.

He is the first franchisee to be recognized with this award.

Russo’s Restaurants, which is based in Houston, has 47 corporate and franchise-owned locations across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida and Hawaii. It’s international markets include locations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates.
